Kızçev Books
From a child's room to a girl's future.
Kızçev's Hayal Perisi Elif books are now in Caploonba stores and on caploonba.com. Caploonba acts as an intermediary in this partnership: it sells the books and passes the proceeds on to Kızçev's work. You choose a book; a child learns to dream, and a young woman keeps studying.
Five books, five professions, one sentence: I can do it if I want to.
Elif stands for every girl who dreams and believes in what she can do. In each book she steps into a profession: astronaut, doctor, teacher, painter. The series will grow to 21 professions; the first five books are here. The books are in Turkish.
Hayal Perisi Elif
One morning Elif wakes up in the Land of Those Who Say “I Can”: colourful rooms, dancing notes, flying letters. Here everyone can dream; but turning a dream into reality takes curiosity, trying, and working together.
Astronot Elif
Elif misses her big brother. A journey that begins with starlight takes her to the Sky Department: she jumps on the Moon, thinks on Mars and becomes part of a mission on a real space station. What she learns: courage is not being fearless; preparing, thinking and asking for help when needed are part of being strong.
Öğretmen Elif
While building the city of their dreams, Elif and her friends step through a mysterious door into the Forest School in the Forest of Knowledge. This time Elif is the teacher: she guides a firefly that cannot find its light and gives courage to an owl afraid of flying. Teaching is not knowing everything; it is staying beside someone until they say “I can do it”.
Doktor Elif
When her little sister Nisa falls ill on a Sunday, Elif decides to do something instead of being sad. A journey that begins with a lovingly prepared plate of fruit takes her to the Land of Those Who Say “I Can”, where she discovers how to listen to a heart, how to calm a fear, and the power of helping.
Ressam Elif
Today Elif feels as if the colours inside her have run together; she cannot say what she feels. Her sister Nisa's drawings carry the two of them to the seas of the Land of Those Who Say “I Can”. As a painter, Elif gives courage to a fish afraid to draw its feelings and hope to a seahorse that thinks it has lost its colours. Painting is not just drawing well; it is expressing yourself.
The strength of women, the strength of society.
The Girls' Education Association (Kız Çocukları Eğitim Derneği, KIZÇEV) was founded in 2018 to remove the inequalities girls face in access to education and to equip them with knowledge, courage and self-confidence. Based in Istanbul, the association today gives scholarships with no strings attached to young women at university who need financial support, and stands by its scholars with personal development programmes, psychological support, career mentoring, arts workshops and seminars.
Kızçev sees education not just as an academic tool but as the key to personal freedom and social change. The book series grows out of that view: giving girls the courage to dream early, and the feeling that “I can do it too”.
To support girls' education and their access to safe spaces for development, so that they take their place in society as strong, independent and active individuals.
A world in which every girl can access her rights, grow stronger through education and exist in society as a free, equal and active individual.
“Every girl has the right to dream and to follow that dream. We are not just introducing professions to our children; we want to give them courage, self-confidence and the feeling that ‘I can do it too’.”Mehlika Gürsoylu, Chair of the Board, KIZÇEV
The project behind the books
The series comes from KIZÇEV Yayınları, the association's newly founded publishing arm. In every book Elif steps into a different profession; the plan covers 21 professions and profession-themed colouring books. Through its “Ben İstersem Yapabilirim” (“I can do it if I want to”) campaign, Kızçev also delivers the same books to village schools in Hatay and Mardin.
- A summary for parents and teachers on every back cover: what does this book teach children?
- Professions beyond gender stereotypes for girls: astronaut, doctor, painter, teacher
- The right length for building a reading habit: 48 pages, plenty of illustrations, a story finished in one sitting
Our work is the rooms children grow up in.
Caploonba designs rooms for ages 0 to 24. We know there is a dreaming child inside every room, and Kızçev's books speak the language of that dream. The book stands in our stores and this page exist to bring that language to more children. Kızçev is Caploonba's third partnership in which the proceeds go to a non-profit organisation.
